Education is becoming an increasingly popular subject to study and is ideal if you are seeking roles within this rewarding and exciting profession. If you are passionate about helping people learn and would like to undertake study that has a very hand on approach, this area is ideal for you.

Education and Training student

Our programmes are a great steppingstone for those that want to become teachers, and those that are interested in working within education. Students can undertake a PGCE after graduating to qualify as a teacher. Other students progress into roles within the government, youth work, police work and social work (students benefit from undertaking an Education degree before a PGCE to gain in depth insight into education, with the option of combining it with a specialism). For those students that are unsure about whether teaching is for them, these degrees provide an excellent insight into what teaching requires – and if they change their mind, they can progress into a wide variety of other roles and demonstrate transferable skills).

For postgraduate education courses, learning is situated in and around practice and therefore part-time students can build on study to develop careers, enhance educational and organisational practice and to feed learning directly back into their workplace setting.

The UCLan Teacher Education Partnership offers you the exciting opportunity to study in one of 14 colleges across the North West region and gain a PGCE or Certificate in Education for the 16+ age group. You can study full or part time and we also offer shorter certificate and ‘taster’ courses.

An enormous variety of teaching opportunities exist across the learning and skills sector, in further education colleges, sixth forms, adult and community learning, the National Health Service, the prison service, the police service and in private sector training organisations.

Ofsted also recognises that colleges with UCLan Teacher Education programmes are generally at least ‘good’, if not ‘outstanding’, and that this is due at least in part to the quality of training that teachers have received, and also to the ongoing professional development on teaching and learning which is led in many colleges by the teacher training team.

Teaching is a challenging but rewarding profession, one where you will use your enthusiasm and talents to really make a difference to your students’ lives. Our courses will equip you to educate and influence your learners and help them fulfil their potential.
