New Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker is going to have three companions when the show returns in 2018. The Chase host Bradley Walsh and Hollyoaks actors Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole have been announced as the Doctor’s new best friends.

Mandip, 29, will be playing Yasmin, who is a regular character in the show.

Mandip said: ‘I am over the moon to be joining the Doctor Who family. This is an iconic show with an amazing fanbase and I look forward to everything that brings. Certain roles seem unattainable and this is one of those, so much so I didn’t believe it to be true for the first few weeks. To be working alongside the likes of Jodie, Bradley and my old friend Tosin is thrilling. This show is worlds away from the work I’ve done previously and that’s the part that excites me the most.’

Since graduating from the BA (Hons) Acting in 2009 and after signing with top Manchester Agent Jane Hollowood Associates, Mandip has worked fairly consistently in theatre and has also been very close to getting several high profile TV roles.

She is best known for playing Phoebe Jackson in Hollyoaks from 2012 to 2015. Phoebe met an untimely end when she was murdered by Lindsay Butterfield, aka the Gloved Hand Killer.

Mandip has also appeared in TV series Cuckoo last year as Lauren, and played Shaz Amin in BBC soap Doctors.

She has also had roles in The Good Karma Hospital and Casualty.
